From the Desk of the Editor: Mech Designer Edition

Evidently some of you liked the previous issue, so here we are at it again with a second one. We’ve got a few new contributors to join the team this time around, and we’re always looking for more – if you’ve got something you’d like to write for the newsletter get in touch with the editorial team (aka me) at bpl.thelegion@gmail.com.

Tex and the crew are hard at work on the next TTBT and appreciate as always the support – Mr. Tex tells me they’ve got something special lined up.

Our fellow legionnaires have been working on an old-style written Let’s Play of, you guessed it, Dwarf Fortress here on the website – check that out here.

A big thank you to everyone who wrote in last time, and to everybody who sent in art which you can enjoy in the issue’s art gallery back on the index page (be sure to click through, there’s more than will fit in the preview). Now, letters!

Hello BPL the Legion,

I enjoyed the newsletter. Each article was a good read and I enjoyed the comic trips. Can’t wait to see the next issue.

Hopefully Storm Song recovers from his Cactus Juice induced woes soon.

To Motormouth Jamie,

What are your thoughts about single player rpgs such as Thousand Year Old Vampire or Miru? Do you found them interesting or just boring?

To Zeb,

Best of luck getting someone to run Mage: The Ascension. If you do, I hope to hear about the chaos that results and the world changing events that happen.

To Squic,

I need to decide what food to cook for a wedding. We have an estimated 200 people coming and I need to make a decision. What should I cook? BBQ? Mexican? See if Wide Tom can cater for it?

To all the best,
Tarnc

Thank you for your kind words, Tarnc. Jamie wrote an article for this issue on the subject of single-player RPGs, and I have personally delivered your question to Squic for the latest edition of Ask Squic, though I cannot guarantee that the answer will be coherent or comprehensible.

Greetings The Legionnaire Staff,

I made this sometime ago while learning Affinity’s product suite. It was during Tex and crew’s Wednesday night run of Arcanum. Although not spess related perhaps it still has a place in The Legionnaire.

Not AI generated if that is a concern. No, this is a culmination of rudimentary prop making, poor composition, my cell phone camera, too much time, not enough sense and lack of general cleverness. Plus trying too hard.

Provided in an old photo style but available in full color prn.

Thank you and I look forward to the next issue.

Regards,
-J

Mmm, you can really taste the nails. Thanks, J!

Daniel wrote in with some photos of, and I quote, “Some stuff I’ve been working on” (click for larger):

Thanks Daniel!

Finally, several readers sent in artwork – as mentioned check the gallery for those. Lady Red also had a mech-drawing assignment, for which we had a few additional submissions I wanted to specifically publish in this post.

In order of submission (click for larger):

From Pistol6699 (nice)
Suomi the BattleMech, by The Forrests
By Duncan Idaho 11
The Slepnir in Lyran colours, by Gelbsucht_IE
Same, but in black-and-white (tryhard)

Thank you to everyone who submitted. Lady Red has prepared another homework assignment below:

Send your submissions to bpl.thelegion@gmail.com. Also – please do use the email as the primary means of getting stuff into the newsletter, that is the surest way to guarantee that I, the editor, will see it and know it should be included. There’s a lot of places people post art in the wider legion community and if it isn’t clear that something is intended for the newsletter, I don’t want to assume and put it in – that would be stealing.

Thank you again for sharing your creative endeavors and your kind words with us, and I hope you enjoy this issue of the newsletter.
